European Parliament election 2019

Information for European election candidates

In the Federal Republic of Germany, participation in European Parliament elections is governed by the provisions of the European Elections Act in conjunction with the Federal Elections Act and the European Electoral Regulations.

The date of the European Parliament election 2019 is not fixed yet. It has to be determined in accordance with the provisions of Articles 10 and 11 of the Direct Elections Act in conjunction with Section 7 of the European Elections Act.

The information provided by the Federal Returning Officer is based on the current version of the European Elections Act as promulgated on 8 March 1994 (Federal Law Gazette I pp. 423, 555, 852), which was last amended by Article 1 of the Act of 7 October 2013 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 3749), and on the current version of the European Electoral Regulations as promulgated on 2 May 1994 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 957), last amended by Article 1 of the Ordinance of 16 May 2018 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 570), and is subject to any amendments to the European Elections Act and the European Electoral Regulations.
